Pukeko Musicians

A big welcome to Joseph and Tamir, who have been settling in the Pukeko Room this week. Both are doing really well and are happily exploring their new environment.

"Music and Movement in the Pukeko Room"
Today was music time to 'Hi Five'. As soon as the musical instrument basket was placed on the floor, the race was on! Children eagerly crawled over to choose an instrument to play. Jack, Lavi, Alfie, Brooke, Tamir and Denver banged, tapped, shook, wiggled and swayed to the 'Hi Five' c.d. Even little Joseph joined in by shaking a small maraca.
All the children showed the virtue of enthusiasm and unity.

Play Today

You say you love your children,
And are concerned they learn today?
So am I - that's why I'm providing
A variety of kinds of play.

You're asking me the value
Of blocks and other such play?
Your children are solving problems
They will use that skill everyday.

You're asking what's the value
Of having your children play?
Your daughter's creating a tower;
She may be a builder someday.

You're saying you don't want your son
To play in that "sissy" way?
He's learning to cuddle a doll;
He may be a father someday.

You're questioning the interest centres;
They just look like useless play?
Your children are making choices;
They'll be on their own someday.

You're worried your children aren't learning;
And later they'll have to pay?
They're learning a pattern for learning;
For they'll be learners always.

Erin Leaving

Dear Parents

We are sorry to tell you that Erin (one of our regular relievers) has to leave due to personal reasons. We are sad to lose Erin but may see her back one day when she finishes her qualification. Erin mostly worked in the Weka (Preschool) room.

Toddler's Animal Day

Such a fantastic day! The children dressed up for this occasion and we even had a bouncy castle for a couple of hours. The toddlers had such a wonderful time in the preschool playground, especially bouncing around and climbing on the bouncy castle. In the end, when it was time to go, some of the children were not keen to leave the area, but we must admit, most of the children were quite tired from their morning with all the excitement they had had .

Animal Dress Up Day in Preschool

Animal Dress Up Day was a blast!
The children came in some wonderful costumes. We had everything from black bats to yellow buzzy bees. The teachers got involved with lions, cats and tigers. We even had a special visit from a hedgehog.

The children loved bouncing around on the bouncy castle and when we shared our playground with the toddlers, we were able to explore their playground too.
It was a fabulous day had by all and the children cannot wait for it to come around next year, so they can dress up as their favourite animal again.
See attached photos of all the wonderful animals.

Phew it's busy in the Nursery

It has been another action packed week in the nursery.

The Tuatara children have been enjoying the opportunity to explore the new outdoor equipment, it is amazing how many children you can fit on a bridge at once. There are lots of different ways that we can set it all up so there will be many fun filled and challenging moments to come, keep your eyes on both the blog and the today’s sheet for updates.

In the Pukeko room the children have been building friendships. The children are learning to play together, initiating games and working together.

On another note, there are a lot of songs that are very popular with the children at the moment, so we will put a song each week for a while so that you can join in at home.

Tiny Tim
I had a little turtle, his name is Tiny Tim,
I put him in the bathtub to see if he could swim.
He drank up all the water,
He ate up all the soap
And now he’s lying in his bed with a bubble in his throat.
Bubble, bubble, bubble,
Bubble, bubble, bubble
Bubble, Bubble… POP!

Pukeko News

This week (13th October) the Nursery children in the Pukeko Room showed great delight in exploring new activities using all their senses and bodies as tools in their exploration.
The children are happy and comfortable within the centre environment. This sense of belonging gives the children the confidence to explore new and familiar activities socially and independently.
The children had the opportunity to play with the gloop. The consistency of the gloop changes from solid to liquid with the heat provided from the children's hands. They also played with natural resources including pine cones, shells etc. Check out the photos below.

Fun at Preschool

Yesterday there was some excitement in the playground. The Toddler's Wendy House was being moved. Sebastian, Hudson, Leo, Caleb & Jamie took a real interest in this and stood by the gate watching as John figured out how to shift it.
While we watched we talked about how we would move it. "We could lift it," said Sebby. "It might be too heavy," said Hudson. "We can push it," said Jamie. "Yeah, lift it," said Leo. John then came over the show the boys his muscles. The talk then diverted to how we get strong muscles. We talked about eating all of our lunch and eating lots of fruit and vegetables.
"Girls have strong muscles too," said John. "Some girls have stronger muscles than me!" The boys all laughed at what John had said. "We need some woman power," said John. The Toddler teachers then came outside and helped to push the Wendy House into place. It's new home is now right beside our Kauri Cottage.

Fun filled Action Day In Toddlers

Toddlers had lots of exciting, fun things to do today. There was jumping off the boxes and on to the soft cushions. They were resting in the tyres and giggling through the tunnels and chasing each other. The children had fun as you can tell by the photos below.

A Slippery Fish (song)

A slippery fish, a slippery fish,
swimming in the water,
a slippery fish, a slippery fish,

Gulp, gulp, gulp.

Oh no he's been eaten by a tuna fish,
a tuna fish, swimming in the water,
a tuna fish, a tuna fish,

Gulp, gulp, gulp

Oh no he's been eaten by an octopus,
an octopus, splashing in the water,
an octopus, an octopus,

Gulp, gulp, gulp

Oh no he's been eaten by a great white shark,
a great white shark, lurking in the water,
a great white shark, a great white shark,

Gulp, gulp, gulp

Oh no he's been eaten by a
humongous whale, a humongous whale

Nursery's Got Talent

The Nursery children have learnt a couple of new songs, "Tiny Tim" and "Cuddly Koalas" and at times they get so carried away that they'll settle for any songs, including the famous, "Slippery Fish."
Check out the photos of the Tuatara children in action!

Watch this space as we will be uploading more photos and songs in detail from next week onwards.
