Nursery News

We have had another great week in the Nursery. Vanessa has been on holiday so Jo has returned to keep us all company. William has started walking and is very proud of his efforts, while Jonty has been spending a lot of time in the Tuatara Room. Daniel has started his visits to Toddlers and is doing really well.

We are starting to use email to send out photos, or video clips to our nursery parents so if you haven't already had a conversation with us about this please talk to your child's primary teacher and let them know the kind of things you would like to see.

Check out the Daily Diaries for more information about our week

Clothing in Preschool...

Just a reminder of the importance of dressing your child in old clothes for preschool. Preschool is a place for exploring, getting messy and having fun, and it is inevitable that your child's clothes will get grubby. While we try really hard to encourage children to wear aprons and be careful with their clothing, we cannot always prevent stains.

Please allow your child the opportunity to be carefree and explore actively while they play and learn by dressing them in old play clothes that you are not too fussed about getting dirty.

We really appreciate your assistance with this.

Thanks

The Preschool teachers.

New Preschool teacher

Dear Preschool parents

We warmly welcome back Erin Knight to the team of teachers at Bayfield. Erin was a student at our Preschool centre over 2 years ago and she has now completed her Degree in Early Childhood Education. Erin will be taking Kathryn's position in Preschool and she will be with us until the end of March 2011.

WELCOME BACK ERIN!

Outside gloop experience

Gloop fun outside

Today was such a beautiful day outside it would have been wrong to not make the most of it. The sunlight shone right down on the preschool playground. Jo came up with a fabulous idea to make some gloop. The children just loved it. They gathered around the trough feeling it with their fingers watching as the gloop crawled down there arms and drip back into the trough. "this is so messy". The birds had a lovely snack pecking at the leftover floury glooped which dried on the concrete after the children had finished making a fun mess. We captured some lovely photos of the children as they experienced playing with gloop. Check them out!

Busy week in toddlers...cooking and celebrating Ranen's birthday

A big Happy birthday to Ranen who turned 3 last week on July 7th. Happy birthday to Jamie who turned 3 on Monday 12th July and a big farewell to Jasper who started in preschool this week.

Child spaces at our centres

Dear Parents
We seem to have a huge interest in child spaces at the moment. As many of you realise we do have a long wait list at Bayfield. Our Nursery currently has a year wait list, Toddlers around 6 to 9 months and Preschool a year or more.

However, our sister centre in Takapuna has a few spaces to fill so if you have a friend or colleague looking for a childcare space for their over 2 year old we may be able to help them. It is, after all, only 10 minutes over the bridge. Of course you are always welcome to visit the centre. It is located on the corner of Pupuke Road and Killarney Street. As I manage both centres you simply need to give me a call regarding a visit time. My numbers are 09 3788106 (Bayfield) and 09 4898666 ( Takapuna) or my mobile 021818162. Pupuke has a blogspot as well on pupukeearlyed.blogspot.com

Shona Hewitt

It was mostly a fine week in the nursery and there was a lot of fun to be had.
In the Pukeko Room we welcomed Vinnie, who has settling been with us in the mornings.
Over in the Tuatara Room we took advantage of the Toddler Room trip and spent Friday morning taking over their playground.

Pyjama Day!

It's that time of year again, time for snuggly pyjama day in Preschool!

Friday July 9

Send your children to Preschool in their cuddliest night time attire - jammies, robes, slippers, all that comfy stuff! We will have a daytime slumber party with popcorn and a movie, lots of stories, and some other themed activities.
Please remember that if your child wears slippers they will also need proper shoes for going outside as well.

Looking forward to seeing all the groovy jammies!

Preschool Sport Stars!

The Preschool boys are getting really into soccer and rugby lately and we have been seeing some impressive skills! There have been some issues involved, such as enthusiastic tackling, but these have provided opportunities for discussion and negotiation!
We are thinking about finding a soccer or rugby player to come in and give our sportsmen (and ladies) some tips and encouragement, so if you know anyone give us a yell!

This enthusiasm about team games is part of a wider interest in group activities that seems to be big at the moment. The children are enjoying playing board games (we have two awesome new ones) and mat time games (new ones and old favourites) as well as sporty stuff outside.
