Dinosaurs
This week the children enjoyed water play outside. Great conversations emerged during this play about dinosaurs, whales, star fish etc. The children wondered if T. Rex and Brachiosaur could swim in the water. They were surprised to know that Plesiosaur, a reptile who looks like a dinosaur could swim in the water. We also talked about climatic conditions during the Jurassic period, when dinosaurs existed. We will extend children’s interest in dinosaurs through books and also looking for the information on the internet.

The words of Piaget on Children's play
“Jean Piaget theorized that a child’s mental models, or cognitive structures, are based on the child’s activities; engagement makes meaning. Free, unstructured play is healthy and, in fact, essential for helping children reach important social, emotional and cognitive developmental milestones. Piaget’s theory is based on the idea that the developing child builds cognitive structures known as mental maps, or schemas, for understanding and responding to physical experiences.

New Preschool teacher
Dear preschool parents
We are happy to inform you that we have a new preschool teacher. HIS name is Earl Edgar. Earl has many years experience working with young children and has recently returned from a working holiday in the UK where he was working with young preschoolers. Earl spent over a year working in Bear Park Herne Bay before going overseas. Earl is in his last year of training and will be finishing his qualification next year. He has qualifications in performing arts and music and can play the drums. We are hoping he will be able to take up Laura’s music class. Earl starts with us on Wednesday 13th of October. Please do go up and introduce yourself to him.
Kind regards
Shona
